Artist Profile

Jonathan has worked as a professional wildlife artist since 1999, but has been observing and drawing wildlife from an early age. He graduated in 1998 from Blackpool & The Fylde College, gaining a First Class Hons Degree in Natural History Illustration and was also awarded the Mary Elizabeth Barrow Award for excellence in art and design, being nominated course 'Student of the Year'.

In 2003, Jonathan won the Birdwatch Artist of the Year competition for his portrayal of a female Hen Harrier, inspired by an early spring field trip to mid-Wales. Typical of the paintings he produces, this work is as much a portrayal of landscape and interesting lighting as it is a study of wildlife, as it is often the former elements that provide the initial inspiration for his work.

'Orchards Through the Eyes of An Artist', part of Langford Press's Wildlife Art Series, was Jonathan's first solo publication, and was published in 2005. In 2006 Jonathan had a painting selected for inclusion in the prestigious 'Birds In Art' exhibition at Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, in the USA.

Alongside painting, Jonathan also works as an illustrator specialising in subjects with a Natural History theme. His diverse portfolio, includes work produced for many books and magazines, as well as interpretation material for museums, nature reserves and educational facilities.
